DS90C387A: Single pixel RGB666 to dual pixel LVDS(each port only include 3ch data & one clock), is it feasible?

Part Number: DS90C387A

Dear team,

My customer has a new demand, and the conditions are: single pixel 18bit RGB666 input, dual pixel LVDS output. About the LVDS output, they only use A0/A1/A2, A4/A5/A6, CLK1/CLK2, but they don't use A3 & A7. Is it feasible? If not, do we have other device which can meet such requirements?(Each LVDS port's pixel frequency is 48MHz)

Thanks & Best Regards,

Sherry

  • Hi Sherry,

Let me just confirm you are trying to have 2 input sources of RGB666 and output them over 2 LVDS with 3 lanes diff pair and both clk lanes?

if this is correct all you need to do is not connect the 2 MSB of the Red(R16,R17 and R26, R27) Green(G16,G17 and G26, G27) and Blue(B16,B17 and B26, B27) for both inputs and not connect the lane A3 and A7.

    Regards,

    Michael W.

  • Hi Michael,

    Thanks for your reply!

Sorry I made a mistake. The input is RGB888 instead of RGB666, and they only use one input port(24 bit). The output is 2 LVDS with 3 lanes diff pair and both clk lanes. Is it feasible?

    Thanks & Best Regards,

    Sherry

  • Hi Sherry,

Just to clarify what the goal is:

Input: RGB888 on port 1 and nothing on port 2

    Output: A0 - A2, A4 - A6 and CLK 1 and CLK 2

Where is this LVDS signal going? is it going to two separate displays?

  • Hi Michael,

    In the customer's old project,

    Input: RGB888 on port 1 and nothing on port 2;

    Ouput: A0-A3, A4-A7 and CLK1 and CLK2.

The customer choose single input pixel to dual pixel output mode of DS90C387A. And it works well.

Now the customer has a new screen, and the requirements are as below,

Input: RGB666 on port 1 and nothing on port 2, but the customer's CPU only support RGB888 mode. The customer plans to abandon CPU‘s 2 LSB, and only use R12-R17, G12-G17 and B12-B17. In this way they will miss 2 LSB information.

    Output: A0-A2, A4-A6 and CLK1 and CLK2.

Is this feasible? Below is the screen's datasheet.

    Thanks & Best Regards,

    Sherry

  • Hi Sherry,

Yes, Your analysis is correct. This system should work.

    Regards,

    Michael W.

  • Hi Michael,

Thanks for your reply! Yes, the customer test it in this way, and it works.

    Thanks & Best Regards,

    Sherry
