TPS65982: BUSPOWERZ = 1.8V

Part Number: TPS65982

Hello , i have made a test board using TPS65982 and connected 1.8V to BUSPOWERZ pin.

The board function is to be a sink , that is powered from VBUS and outputs 5V @ 3A on PP_HV pin.

I connected the board to the USB type-C cable and it outputed 5V on PP_HV even tho the flash memory with the FW wasn't programmed yet.

Is there a reason why TPS65982 outputed 5V on PP_HV pin even tho it wasnt configured yet?

Note that its in dead battery mode with no VIN_3V3 connected.

  • Hi Eriks,

This is expected behavior. When the TPS65982 boots in a dead battery scenario, it reads the voltage applied to the BUSPOWERZ pin to determine how to supply VBUS power to the system. Since you are supplying 1.8V to this pin, the voltage applied on VBUS will be supplied to PPHV. You can refer to the following screenshots from the datasheet for reference.
