DP83867E: Transfer Camera Data

Part Number: DP83867E

Hi Team,

My customer now would like to design a project for highway.

They want to transfer data from camera side to processor. The camera is 2448×2048 180 fps. Which is need a great data rate.

Could our 1000M PHY support such a data rate? (>2444*2048*24(RGB888)*180=21G...)

  • Hi Amelie,

Through put of gigabit phy is 1Gbps so if they want to use Ethernet for that then they will have to do some buffereing. Then there is also latency involved with Ethernet. So it depends upon their system requirements? Can you share some block diagram and data transfer specs that they may have? Also what are they using as of now?

  • Hi Vikram,

It is customer first design for High Speed Rail.

They consider FPD-Link or Ethernet as solution.

Customer situation is to shoot a 1.6-km far away object with the camera. If it is found that there is a 0.3 * 0.3M object on the track, it provides early warning. They need to transmit 4K resolution data  in less than 60 milliseconds.

I calculate the  data rate(>2444*2048*24(RGB888)*180=21G...) I think it is impossible to realize if need real-time detect.

If I use Ethernet, how could I calculate the latency? Since one frame data is higher than 21Gbps, if PHY is 1Gbps, the latency is 20s? It is too high for high speed rail.

  • Hi Amelie,

I think that they need to use interface other than Ethernet for this data rate and application. Can you write a mail to me about it and I can forward the query to more experts.

  • Hi Vikram,

Thanks! I am discussing with them whether consider use FPD-Link.

    Thanks!
