AM26LV32E-EP: overshoot issues

Part Number: AM26LV32E-EP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM26LV32E, AM26LV32

For the AM26LV32E-EP part, I used it many places and didn’t see any +/-overshoot issues with added 33.2ohm series resistor.  Oddly, last week, I was told that it showed very high +/-overshoot that they weren’t able to correct until they increase the series resistor value to more than double. I don’t have any measurement pictures yet, so I am not certain how high/low it was or if it really required the resistor value that high though. I don’t remember seeing any unusual overshoot issues for the part previously…. Are there any recommendation to add a large series resistor for the part?

This is how the AM26LV32E output signal looks in the sim with the 33.2ohm resistor, waveforms with nonmonotonic edges are seen at the test point, which is placed close to the AM26LV32E part.

  • Michael,

I think generally overshooting is more about system level signal integrity. For the detailed analysis, you can refer to Figure 14 (page 15) of this app note.

What's the data rate and distance of the application? Are any terminations placed at the input of AM26LV32? If not, this might be the easiest solution. Another thought is that in stead of adding serial resistors, you could consider adding differential capacitor on the bus (between A and B).
