DS90UB936-Q1: 1. Synchronous mode question 2.Disconnect the clock from Serializer to Image Sensor using synchronous mode

Hi Team,

I have two questions showing as below.

1. Synchronous mode

In this mode, a clock is passed from the deserializer to the serializer through the FPD-Link III back channel, and the serializer is able to use this clock both as a reference clock for an attached image sensor, and as a reference clock for the link back to the deserializer (FPD-Link III forward channel).

So do I need connect the CLKP/N for image sensor to serializer?

2. Disconnect the clock from Serializer to Image Sensor using synchronous mode

We connected the the 24MHz ref CLK in 936 and operate in synchronous mode. Do we have method like register setting to disconnect the clk between image sensor and serializer?

  • Hello Roy,

    There are three different clocks which you are talking about here:

    1. CSI-2 clock P/N from the imager is required to be connected to the serializer in all operating modes

    2. The serializer can send a reference clock (CLKOUT) to the imager if needed (this is optional and based on system design preference). 

    3. The deserializer has a local reference clock (REFCLK) 24-26MHz which is required in all operating modes

    For item.2, could you let me know if we have chapter in datasheet to say that how to set the serializer reference clk to image sensor and how to terminate it communication?

  • Hi Roy,

    You can refer to Table 6 in the 953/935 datasheet. The last column (CLK_OUT) provides a formula for clkout in different modes. Section 7.4.1.5 discusses exactly how to configure the clkout output. By default, CLKOUT is on and cannot be terminated, it can only be configured for different rates.
