TCA8418E: When driving GPIOs, can I use the (active low) RESET pin as an (active high) ENABLE pin?

Part Number: TCA8418E

When driving GPIOs with the TCA8418E, can I use the (active low) RESET pin simply as an (active high) ENABLE pin?  That is, when the MCU is starting up, or is otherwise in a standby state in which the GPIOs attached to the TCA8418E are not needed, can I just hold the RESET pin low, so as to not drive any connected devices, until the MCU is ready to enable and use the GPIOs on the TCA8418E?  This seems possible, but I didn't specifically see it described this way in the datasheet...

  • Hey Thomas,

The device powers up with all the GPIOs set to as inputs and pull up resistors enabled, if you hold the reset pin low then it would also just stay in this state. If set he GPIOs to outputs then did this then what your saying would work. But otherwise it wouldn't affect anything if you haven't programed the device after power up.
