Hi Team,

I'm looking for the HDMI 1.4b retimer/redirver  solution , per check from TI.com , I found TDP158(HDMI redriver, AC coupled) & TMDS181 (HDMI retimer) looks fit the requirement , however , I have below 3 questions to ask

1. Do I find the correct solution? 

2. If yes, how should I choose between redriver and retimer? per trace loss? if yes, is there's estimate loss(dB) for reference?

3. TDP158 shown it's for AC coupled solution, what does it mean? does it mean's it for the application that have AC coupled between GPU(HDMI source) and connector?

    Hi, 

    For HDMI1.4 only, please consider the SNx5DP149 or the TMDS171. The DP159 and the TMDS181 support both HDMI1.4 and 2.0.

    The difference between the DP149/159 and the TMDS171/181 depends on the source. The DP149/159 is targeted toward the AC-coupled HDMI, or DP++ while the TMDS171/181 is targeted toward the DC-coupled HDMI.

    If jitter cleaning is need, then please consider the retimer. If signal integrity is only needed, then please consider the redriver solution.
