DS125MB203: When does DS125MB203 detect ENSMB pin state?

Guru 29720 points
Part Number: DS125MB203

Hi Team,

DS125MB203 operates in 3 modes (SMBus slave mode, master mode, pin mode) to set ENSMB as the following.

Is the mode set at power-on timing only?
I believe the mode isn't loaded by toggling RESET, is my understanding correct?

Best Regards,
Yaita

  • Hi Yaita,

    The ENSMB pin can be changed without cycling power.  This is not typical for applications.   Here are some examples.

    ENSMB = 0 to VDD

    The device will shift from pin control to register control.  When the ENSMB pin changes, the register defaults for VOD, DEM, and CTLE will be applied.  This could potentially cause a temporary signal integrity issue until optimal settings can be programmed into the device.  The SMBus address will be determined by the pin levels latched at power up.

    ENSMB = 0 to Float

    This will not automatically trigger an EEPROM download.  The device registers will be accessible to program and control the DS125MB203

    ENSMB = VDD to 0

    The device will shift from register to pin control.

    Regards,

    Lee
