SN75C1168: Unused channel

Part Number: SN75C1168

Hi Expert,

If the 2A and 2B pin are connected to GND for unused pin termination, Output R will  be indeterminate from datasheet FUNCTION TABLES.

Regarding indeterminate conditions

Is there possibility of output oscillation? Will it be fixed at either High or Low?

Are there any concerns about device damage?

Thanks

Muk

  • Hello Muk-san,

There are no concerns about device damage related to this.

In most cases the output will be either static-high or static-low due to the typical 60-mV hysteresis on the differential input switching threshold.  If there is some noise coupling on the A or B lines that exceeds this hysteresis level, though, toggling (either periodically or randomly) is possible.  Note that the exact behavior may vary from chip to chip and for a given device may vary at different operating temperatures.  If you wanted to remove the risk of output toggling I would recommend pulling one of the inputs to a high level in order to provide a constant differential input to the receiver.

    Regards,
