DS90UB962-Q1: Connecting DS90UB953-Q1 through CAT7 STP Cable

Part Number: DS90UB962-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB953-Q1

Dear TI Team,

I would like to connect 4pcs cameras with DS90UB953-Q1 serializer to DS90UB962-Q1 deserializer through CAT7 STP cable.

I can see many reference designs and documents about PoC connection on Web site but can't find the reference schematic and technical documents related with STP connection..

If any information about the above, It will be greatly helpful for my product design.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

  • Hello Ryu,

what is the datarate planned to be transmitted per camera?

Background of the question is that CAT7 cables are suitable for frequency up to 600MHz, but our devices, i.e. 953 is working up to 2.1GHz.

  • Hi Hamzeh,

Many thank for your quick reply.

     The data rate per camera is 2MP x 60fps x 10bit x 1.2 blanking = 1.44Gbps .

As you mentioned, i can't use STP for the data rate. am i right?

    B.Regards,

    Kevin

  • Hi Hamzeh,

As shown the table below, Cat7 has 10Gbps speed, even though the cable has 4ch connection.

so, 2.5Gbps/channel is possible, i guess.

and How about cat-8? is it possible to make the throughput between 953 and 962?

Actually, i want to use Catalog cable for the connection, because my product needs the simple plug-in and plug-off.

  • Hello Ryu,

as I said, the 600MHz is too less for our device requirements. Although you can configure the SER-DES to run at half rate, i.e. 2Gbps but even though you need a cable which supports up to 1GHz min.

So, you may use the CAT7a which supports 1GHz or even better the CAT8.

  • Hello Hamzeh,

I reviewed the video clips on TI training and finally decided to use STQ cable(Cat8) for the connection between SerDes.

one pair will be used for FC/BC of the data/control transmission and 2nd pair will be used for power delivery.

May i ask some design reference data like a reference schematic for STQ connection?

    Thanks in advance.

    Best Regards,

    Kevin

  • Kevin,

why do not you use a Coax cable? Using just one wire you can transfer FC, BC and power.

Also Coax is cheaper than STQ.
