TUSB321: TUSB321 Not generating Output

Part Number: TUSB321

Dear,

In our project we are using TUSB321 IC for standalone Operation to achieve 5V Output.

We are using the IC in UFP Mode and Want current Output to be 3A.

Below is the attached Schematic of  the IC.

So please provide us some solution..!!

Waiting for your reply..!!

  • Hi,

UFPs are typically power consumers. If you application is a UFP that sources power then you will need to use a PD controller to perform a power role swap.

In UFP mode, the TUSB321 device monitors the CC pins for the voltage level corresponding to the Type-C mode current advertisement by the connected DFP. TUSB321 communicates the detected current advertisement to the system so the system can modify its own current consumption.

  • Dear,

I am using a PD Charger to provide the Source of 5V 3A.

So in my design i want 3A of current so do i need to change anything in my design,or the TUSB321 will adjust accordingly to the power consumption..??

Also the Output of the TUSB321 will be going in the battery charging IC to charge the battery.

Let me know if you need any more information.

My aim is to acheive 5V and 3A of spec so do i need to change anything in my design..?

  • Hi,

If TUSB321 is powered from VBUS, TUSB321 will initially be in dead battery mode since VDD=0. Once powered, TUSB321 will adjust output on the OUT pins with what current mode is detected on the CC pins. Your schematic looks good from a UFP perspective. Also I do recommend using TUSB321A, a updated version TUSB321A.

  • Dear,

So you mean to say that 3A of current will be provided automatically.

What if i place R20 ,10 k resistor on the Current mode Pin of the IC.

Will it set profile of 3A.?

  • Hi.

The 3A current advertisement is provided by the attached DFP, if available. TUSB321 in UFP mode (PORT = L) does not use CURRENT_MODE pins. TUSB321 in UFP mode will report the advertised current mode from the DFP through the OUT pins.

3A profile is dependent on the DFP attached.
