TCAN4550-Q1: Difference between TCAN4550 and TCAN4551

Part Number: TCAN4550-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN4550

I will need CAN-FD controller/Transceiver to use with a 5v microcontroller. So, I found this two models that are very similar. I'm in doubt in which of the two to choose. They are functionally equivalent ? Could be considered drop-in replacements ? What would be the advantages and the disadvantages between one and the other ?

  • Hello,

These two devices are very similar and perform the same with respect to CAN functionality.  The key differences are that TCAN4551 does not include watchdog functionality and does not provide a regulated 5-V output that could be used for external loads.  If you wanted either of those features, the TCAN4550 would be the right choice.  Otherwise, TCAN4551 could be used.
