DP83848K: DP83848K

Part Number: DP83848K

Hi team,

My customer is using DP83848K. I am not familiar with DP83848K. I need your help. I will translate his questions into English. Please point out any unclear points in the translation, and I will give feedback to the customer.

Here are the customer's questions:

DP83848K is the PHY device of slave station, and the physical address of two ports is configured as 0,1,

When connecting with the master station, read the physical link through the ESC register. Port1 is not connected to the network cable, but it reads out that port1 detects the link? Why?

Best Regards,
Amy Luo

  • Hi Amy,

Please confirm the part number and number of ports on each PHY, the DP83848k is a single port PHY. Does that mean you have two PHYs and one of them is disconnected?

If I understand correctly, you are reading the register of the controller and not the PHY? I would recommend posing the question to the controller support team, as I don't have information relating to their registers or functionality.

    Regards,
    Justin

  • Hi Justin,

    Thank you for helping me.

I'm sorry for disturbing you again. The customer feedback that there were two PHYs, and asked how to directly read the value of PHY register?

    Best Regards,
    Amy

  • Hi Amy,

The PHY registers can be read through MDC/MDIO pins of the PHY, described in the datasheet in the Serial Management Interface section and register tables.

As I understand your question, Port 0 PHY is connected to the Master Station and Port 1 PHY is not connected. However, the Master Station register reads Port 1 as connected. Is this correct?

    Regards,
    Justin
