DS100MB203: looking for 10G switch and mux

Part Number: DS100MB203
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS125MB203, DS125DF111, HD3SS3412

Dear team,

Customer is looking for 10G Mux solution in their 10G SFI application.

I found 10G Mux solution - DS100MB203 in TI website.

Could you confirm below question from customer?

- Can DS100MB203 support both SFI and XFI( fibre) without external device?

- Did we have app note which talking about cross-talk issue in trace-layout?

Feel free to recommend suitable solution if your have other device for this application.

Regards,

Ben

  • Hi Ben,

    We have used DS100MB203 to implement a Mux function in many 10G applications.  Many systems at required to meet a host eye mask.  With the DS125MB203 the SFI / XFI output waveform will be dependent on the input waveform characteristics.  This can be a risk to passing the host eye mask limits.  For this reason we most often recommend using a DS125DF111 retimer in SPF+ applications.

    The DS125DF111 retimes the input waveform so the output waveform is cleaner and better able to be programmed to meet eye mask requirements.  The DS125DF111 does incorporate a fanout buffer and mux function via SMBus programming.  So it may be possible to use it in this application.

  • Hi Lee,

    After discussed with customer, they have external retimer solution on board. So only Mux function is needed.

    Could you help to confirm below item?

    - Mux function for XFI/SFI --> DS100MB203

    - Mux + retimer for XFI/SFI--> DS125DF111

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    Ben

  • Hi Ben,

    If there is already a retimer specified at the external connector, only the Mux function is needed.  I would recommend using either the DS100MB203 or even a passive mux like the HD3SS3412 if the system can handle the channel attenuation.
