TPD2S017 bipolarity?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPD2S017, TPD2E007

Hello,

Is the TPD2S017 unipolar like stated in its datasheet:

Ch1_Out
Ch1_In
Ch2_Out
Ch2_In

Is this a mistype? Because the targeted application is bidirectional USB.

I would like to use this in 0,5Mhz RS-485 half-duplex network, is it suitable for this?

Thank you,

  • Hello Arpad,

Yes, the TPD2S017 is unipolar. It cannot handle a negative signal, as we do not have the back-to-back Zener diode structure to allow negative voltage swings through this device.

However, the TPD2E007 does in fact allow negative voltage swings, and its breakdown voltages are ±14V, which would allow the RS-485 signal lines of -7V to +12V to propagate through the device.

    Thanks, Dwight
