P82B96: relation between Vcc and cable length

Part Number: P82B96

Hello,

From the datasheet, higher voltage of +V cable can be used for longer cable, right?

Could you tell me how to determine the +V cable voltage?

Best regards,

Katsu

  • Hello Katsu-san,

The absolute max voltage we allow on the Vcc is 18V and the recommended max is 15V.

Using a higher Vcc allows for larger noise margins on the Rx/Ry lines. (refer to the Vit for Rx/Ry in the electrical characteristics)

If you are not expecting noise to be an issue on the cable end, then using a lower Vcc level can be acceptable though if you expect noise to be a potential concern then choosing the largest Vcc value would be in your best interest. (We don't have a set rule on what the +V voltage needs to be but larger provides better noise protection on the cable side).

The Sx/Sy lines can be pulled up to a different logic level than the Vcc of the device.

Let me know if you have additional questions or if something I explained is unclear.

    Thanks,

    -Bobby
