TPS25750: Single port Sink/Source solutions

Part Number: TPS25750
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25970, BQ25731,

Hi Team,

I have several TPS25750 questions need help here. Use case: source(18W) & sink(100W), but could accept not use both power roles at the same time.

  1. How to seamlessly switch between power roles on TPS25750 for single port solutions?

      1) Hardware. How to control PPHV if don't use jumper to select PPHV to SYS_PWR or VAR_DCDC?

      2) Configuration. Does attached config works? If not, how to modify?

  2. Buck-boost Charger use together with TPS25750D is neither BQ25970 nor BQ25731, how to control the charger from FW perspective?

  3. I configured sink 100W, but PDO5 only shows 3.25A operating current not 5A, is that OK?

  • Hello Holly,

Find answers to your questions below

    1. With the current version of the EVM, it is not possible to act as a high voltage sink and greater than 5V source at the same time. There are hardware limitations where you must move the jumper if you wish to evaluate the high voltage source functionalities of the device. We have plans to update this design in the coming months so a customer does not need to worry about a jumper, but for the time being, this is a limitation of the EVM hardware

    2. If you would like to support one of the battery chargers outlined in the application customization tool, all you need to do is connect the I2C channels from the TPS25750 to the battery charger, and select the correct battery charger in the configuration tool. Our device will handle the rest.

    3. No this should say 5A. We will add this to the list of items to update in the GUI. We are releasing a new version of the GUI soon, and will make sure this makes it on the list of what to update

  • Hi Adam,

Thanks for the reply, could you

    1. Could you share with me the HW design without EVM limitations? Customer want to design their SCH which can support 18W source and 100W sink, without reference design, we're hard to move forward.

    2. Customer use none of the chargers outlined in the application customization tool, how to handle the I2C?

  • Hi Holly,

Please send an email to me, and I can share with you these preliminary designs that you may share with your customer. In your email, would you also be able to outline who the customer is and the end equipment?

If the customer wants to have the TPS25750 control a battery charger on their system, they must use one of the battery chargers outlined in the  application customization tool

  • Hi Adam,

I got TPS25750EVM and tested it. But met an issue need your help. The project file is as attached.

7558.SOURCE18W_SINK100W_TEMP.zip1. Sink function is OK, I can see VBUS got a 20V voltage.

    2. Source is not OK when charger a mobile phone.

    1) D5, D6 and D10 are blinking. P3V3 = 3.3V, P5V = 5V, SYS_PWR = 20V.

    2) The waveform of VBUS is as below, never negos to 9V, which is not correct.

    3) Use the same mobile phone + the same wire + TPS65988EVM, it's OK to get 9V@VBUS.

    3. EVM HW set up are as below:

How to get 9V output as expected when acting as a source?

  • Hi Team,

       Any update?

  • Hello Holly,
