DP83822IF: Link statues discussion

Part Number: DP83822IF
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83822I

Hi team,

My customers used 1 DP83822IF in their design, they built 20 boards.  18 boards are good, two board can realize 10M data communication with some equipment but failed in 100M communication. I have let the customer compared the register of the abnormal board and normal board, see the register value in the file attached and schematic below, could you please help check what may cause this issue? Thanks.

  • Hi Lin,

Thank you for the register information! Can you please clarify in your schematic, are both U44 and U81 carrying signals from the DP83822IF TD_P/M RD_P/M pins? Is one of these signal paths DNP'd?

The primary difference I see between the normal and abnormal boards is register 0x0005. In the abnormal boards, the DP83822IF does not recognize the Link Partner as 100Base-TX capable. Are you using the same link partner between all boards to test? Is there any configuration differences on the link partner between a good board and a bad board?

    Regards,
    Justin

  • Hi Justin,

Yes, only one of  U44 and U81 is used in the customer's design.

The customer is using the same link partner between all boards, no difference of these link partners between good and bad board.

Would appreciate it if you can share with me some professional suggestions here to find the root cause. Thanks.

  • Hi CL,

Can you disable the advertisement of 10Base-T capabilities on the bad boards, I'd like to see if it can resolve auto-negotiation after multiple attempts. Are you able to establish link on the bad boards if auto-negotiation is disabled and the DP83822I is forced to 100M mode?

I see that Auto-MDIX is resolved to MDI on 1 board and MDIX on another board, for both good and bad setups in the register description (reg. 0x0010). Can you describe how this is if all setups are the same?

    Regards,
    Justin

  • Hi CL,

I haven't heard any response for about two weeks and will close the thread. Please start a thread and reference this post if you have a related issue.

  • Hi Justin,

Thank you for your concern here. The customer is busy with some urgent projects, so this issue is pending. I will update to team latest staus if we have any progress. Thanks.
