DP83826E: Proper crystal secection for MII oscillation

Part Number: DP83826E

I want to use 25MHz crystal resonator in pair with DP83826E for my design because of it's lower cost then MEMS osccillator, but when I try to choose one accoding to device datasheet for stable operation it turned out that I do not have enough data for this. For my purpose to calculate gain margin with selected crystal I need to calculate «negative resistance» from amplifier transconductance but I have not this parameters of DP83826E. There is solution to choose crystall with accordance to table 10-1 DP83826E datasheet but it is bad solution because any resistance in series with crystall to maintain crystal drive level may breake gain margin in an unpredictable way.

Is there any information about transconductace of DP83826 oscillator amplifier ?

  • Hi Egor,

We do not provide negative resistance or transcendence parametric data for our input clock circuitry. We recommend following the crystal oscillator selection guide provided in table 10-1 of the datasheet. We also recommend series resistance with the crystal up to 1.5kohms so we do not expect by following the selection guide that a crystal will break down unpredictably.

    Regards,
    Justin
