Hi,

I've evaluated the FRS functionality support on TPS65988EVM with my own configuration with two different phones, Samsung S20 & S20+ where both support PD3.0 and have to support FRS within ~150usec from the sink to the source without the SYS_PWR interruption.

Unfortunately, the measured switching time is too long ~500msec.

I attached the presentation described my own configuration, PD Port1 & 2 registers setup and SF firmware (PD Serial Flash SW001.bin & PD Serial Flash SW001.pjt)

Could you please advise, where is the issue? In my PD registers setup maybe or the phones itself?

Does the FRS mandatory functionalities if the product is announced like PD3.0 support?

Hi Vitaliy,

You seem to be using the 'Standard' template within the GUI which I do not believe is compatible for FRS. I see that you've enabled FRS within the PD3 configuration register, but you also need to make a few changes in the Port Control register. The following app not mentions the changes needed in Table 1.

Also, try measuring the voltage on the CC pins. This will help us determine when some of the messages are being sent

Finally, do you know that the Samsung phones are capable of supporting FRS? While FRS is a functionality allowed in PD3.0, it is not mandatory so because a system is PD3.0 capable does not necessarily mean it is capable of FRS

1. Could you please provide more details? I've set up all three registers manually like in https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slvae20 document in order to enable FRS:

2. Please find enclosed an updated ppt presentation.

3. The GRL-USB-PD-A1 log file is recorded to show PD messages and CC1&CC2 behaviors.

4. I am actually don’t see any FRS request from the PD port2 to the phone while the charger disconnection from PD Port1. The current behavior doesn’t differ from the PR Swap.

2. Please find enclosed an updated "FRS evaluation with ADV_CONG TPS65988.ppt" presentation.

Hello,

The TPS65988 will send the FRS command once the voltage on VBUS has dropped below the UVP threshold. Recommend lowering this threshold to the lowest value of 5%

Also recommend decreasing the system capacitance do that the slew rate of the decrease in voltage is quicker. That is one reason why your total time is so long.
