Hi,

I have a customer who is looking to use the TPS65988 as a 2 port power sink, but I had the following questions:

1. Is it possible to configure the TPS65988 to not turn on the FETs unless the USB power source can provide some minimum amount of current? (say 1.5A at 5V)

2. Is it possible for the device to enable power from more than one source and does the TPS65988 prevent current back flow when that happens?
3. Is there a momentary dropout of power for my board when TPS65988 switches from one USB port to the other for power source?
4. Is it possible to have a preferred USB port for power, only reverting to the other if the primary one doesn’t have enough current? (mostly important depending on the answer for #3)

1) This question is a bit difficult to answer but the short answer is no, it can not do this.

2) Yes, the TPS65988 does have reverse current protection for this exact case. The details are described in section 4 of the app note TPS65987DDH Power Path Performance and Protection. Here's a link to that document:

3) You should not have power dropout when switching sources. This is explained in section 4.1 of the document linked above.
