TPS25750: TPS25750 + BQ25731 Solution

Part Number: TPS25750
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25731, ,

Hi Team,

My customer is evaluating TPS25750 + BQ25731 Solution for 5S pack, and have below questions:

1. Source - When the pack is under voltage, means is 15V(3V each), we also need VBUS = 20V output.

Sink - When the pack is nearly fully charged 20.5V(4.1V each while full charger voltage is 4.2V), if VBUS is 20V, we also need to Charger with small current.

So BQ25731 need to be in OTG mode. Can the GUI configuration + PSIL138E2(001)_Sch support this? My concern is I2C of BQ25731 is connected to TPS25750 without any MCU, I wonder if above two scenarios can be covered.

2. If 45W (15V/3A) source is configured in the GUI, and we want to source an 9V/2A mobile phone. Its not workable in TPS25750EVM, D10 is blinking. Does this due to 9V output issue?

  • Hi Holly,

    1. Right now, the TPS25750 is not capable of changing the advertised source or sink capabilities based on the charge of the battery pack. We are currently looking into whether this functionality can be handled by our device or if an external MCU is needed. Unfortunately I do not have a timeline of when we will make a determination in this requirement

    2. Yes this is the same issue. Regardless of the configuration you choose from the GUI, if you try to go from a 5V source contract to a 9V source contract, you will see the issue on VBUS. Once again, this will be fixed on the next release of the EVM
