SN65LVP20: Output Drive Loads

Part Number: SN65LVP20

I have 2 questions about output drive/impedance for the SN65LVP20 LVPECL output.

1/ The differential transmission line is specified at 100 Ohms (90 to 132 Ohms), confirmed by 50 Ohms from both Y and Z to Vcc-2. Can the output drive a 50 Ohm impedance RF Transformer as ECL would normally drive a 50 Ohms differential load.

2/ Do both the differential outputs (Y and Z) require a pull-down resistor to GND as ECL emitter-followers normally require this. What would be the pull-down resistor values.

Regards,

Chris Heath

  • Hi Chris,

    1. It should be able to, but since 50ohm differential load is outside of the recommended operating conditions specified in the datasheet we cannot guarantee the device will perform according to the specs listed in the datasheet.

    2. No, they only require 50ohm to Vcc-2
