TCAN4550-Q1: Reuse for Classic CAN

Part Number: TCAN4550-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN4550,

Hi team,

My customer want to reuse TCAN4550 CAN FD design(register setting) for Classic CAN.

Which registers should they change to optimize TCAN4550 with Classic CAN?

They think,

0x1018[8](FDOE) should be 0b for disabling CAN FD mode

0x1018[9](BRSE) should be 0b for disabling Bit Rate switching of CAN FD

0x100C[20:16](DBRP) should be chagned from 00b to 11b for changing 2Mbps to 500kbps

Is there else?

Best Regards,

  • Hirai-san,

As long as the data and nominal portion are configured for classical CAN data rates, and FDOE and BRSE are both disabled, the TCAN4550-Q1 will communicate in classical CAN format. Make sure to also remember this when configuring the memory space for filters and CAN messages. The TCAN4550-Q1 automatically handles the FDF bit, and other parts of the CAN frame that change from FD to classical CAN, but the data phase can only contain 8 bytes of information rather than 64 like CAN FD.

    Regards,
