DP83848K: Auto-negotiation Pin Control

Part Number: DP83848K

Hello team,

I have a quick question on Auto-negotiation setting. Could you review my understanding?

I'm confusing in regards to writing the register and pin strap control. So there are two cases in my head.

1. W/o write to bits 8:5] of ANAR register : Pin strap setting on AN1 and AN0 is required to determine the state of bits [8:5] of the ANAR register upon the power up, thereby setting the mode advertised by the device.

2. W/ write to bits [8:5] of ANAR register :  Pin strap setting on AN1 and AN0 is not mandatorily required. The mode will be advertised with ANAR register that was written by Write operation.

My customer lets the AN1 and AN0 pins open, so are the modes still controlled/configured thru the register access, right?

Please correct me if any misunderstanding here. Thanks.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your question. Your case is correct. If you do not strap these pins you will still be able to configure through register access.

Please let me know if you have further questions or need more clarity.

    Thanks,

    Cecilia
