DP83865: DP83865DVH Component Marking

Part Number: DP83865

Can you please confirm if this is a valid marking for this component? We've had a recent failure of new production boards and they all have this version of part which looks quite different from previous parts I've seen. The part number is not centered and the company Logo looks  "simplified".

  • Hi Doug,

unfortunately the image did now show in the message. Can you please try sending the image again?

    Thank you!

    Cecilia

  • Hopefully the picture comes through this time!

  • Here it is!

  • Hi Doug,

I don't think these devices have any issues on them. What type of failures are you seeing?

    Thanks,

    Cecilia

  • We've used these parts on this design for a number of years and generally haven't had any issues with the PHY chips. On the last batch of boards we had built, all fail to connect to the network. When the network cable is plugged in to a PC, the Network Connections tool shows no cable connected.

When I looked at the PHY chips on the boards, they have markings that are not consistent with the other working boards we have. I was concerned they may not be legit components given that odd placement of the part number (not centered) and 'simplified' company logo. The logos on these chips are made up of a single line but on previous chips the logos are made up of 3 parallel lines. The rest of the chip looks OK, no signs of sanding down previous numbers, overpainting, scratches etc, but still questionable.

The fact that the boards aren't connecting to the network and the PHY chips have different markings made me suspicious they could be counterfeit. I checked the TI website to see if there were any documents showing the standard markings for these chips but couldn't find anything. I was really looking for a confirmation that these were legit parts and the part number placement, logo's and manufacturing code are 'normal'.

Do the markings on these chips indicate a date of manufacture? Why do they look so much different then all the previous parts we've received?

  • Hi Doug

I will need to confirm with out manufacturing team and confirm for you why markings can be different.

    Thanks,

    Cecilia

  • Hi Doug,

Apologies on the delay. Our manufcturing team has in fact confirmed that the marking on this is legitimate and that these markings are expected for this device. If you are only experiencing this issue when these new units were used, I can contact our support team to see if we can run any quality analyses for these devices.

Before I do that can you confirm when you ordered these devices, if it was through TI, and the type of configurations you are using for this part? ie MAC IF, Speed, Supply voltages etc

    Thanks,

    Cecilia

  • Thanks for the response Cecilia. I think you've answered my question, my main concern was to verify the markings because they looked different. I found the same issue on a few other boards with the older component markings so the problem must lay elsewhere.
