TPD4E001: Operation with VCC open

Part Number: TPD4E001

Dear TI Team

I would like to ask about TPD4E001.

Is it possible to use TPD4E001 with VCC open?

Looking at the internal block diagram, I think connecting the VCC pin is for the purpose of ESD protection of the VBUS line for example.
Therefore, I think that VCC pin may be OPEN when ESD protection is only applied to the lines connected to IO1 to IO4.

Best Regards,

Yes, you can. Please see here (i've also copied this section of teh datasheet below)

Basically if VCC is not connected, then the data lines can be allowed to swing higher, as it is going to based on VF of the diodes plus reverse breakdown of zener clamp diode from VCC pin to ground. If this is acceptable for your system then yo ucan use it, otherwise you may either want to connect VCC or to choose another option which clamps the signal lines closer to 5V without depending on system supply.
