TPS65988: Intel Rocket Lake PD support

Part Number: TPS65988

Hi all,

My customer want to start their Rocket Lake project with type-c port support. They have USB signal only. Can they use TPS65988 on Rocket Lake project? And any reference design (HW, FW) we have in Rocket lake? Thanks for your kindly help.

Best regards,

Gary Teng

  • Hi Gary,

    One question on this issue:

     "USB signal" refers to what?

USB 2.0/ USB 3.1/ High speed signal of alternate mode supported by USB Type-C connector with PD protocol could all be regarded as "USB signal". So please be clear about the application scenario.

The TPS65988 is a dual port type-c and USB PD controller. It is capable of managing two full featured Type-C and PD ports supporting USB, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt and PD charging. So if the customer need to use full featured Type-C & PD controller with two ports, the TPS65988 can meet the requirements.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Bin,

     1. I know 988 is PD controller only without SS signal process. I mean customer just need dual USB3.2 signal control. They don't need TBT function.

     2. I can't find reference design about Intel Rocket lake with TPS65988. By customer's response, PD need to communicate with PCH through SMLink interface.

     3. In RKL-S UDIMM 6L reference design, customer see there's circuit for PD AIC module but no full TPS65988 circuit. Do you have any information about that?

    Regards,

    Gary

  • Hi Ben,

Any comment for customer's Rocket Lake design?

  • Hi Gary,

Sorry there is no reference design for Rocket Lake from my side. What is RKL-S UDIMM 6L reference? Could you share it ?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Bing,

I don't have RKL-S UDIMM 6L reference design too. Please let me know if you have any information about Rocket lake design support. Thanks.
