TPS65988: Question about TPS65988/7D

Hi team,

Customer has several questions about TPS65988/7D.

please support following questions.

Q1.PP3 and PP4 equal to PP_EXT1 and 2?

Q1.1 what can VBUS Mapping configure? could you give some example?

Q2.what is the differences of following configuration? could you give some example?

Table 3-12. 0x28 Port Configuration Register Bytes1-2:Bits 5:3 

000b Standard USB2-only USB-C receptacle.

001b Standard fully-featured USB-C receptacle.

010b Tethered USB2-only cable with USB-C plug.

011b Tethered fully-featured cable USB-C plug.

 

Q3. are there any kind of firmware installed on TPS65988/7D when shipped?

- and if yes, is it possible to customize it when shipped?

Q4. about following board.

a) TIDA_50012                                    

b) TIDA_50014

c) TPS65988DH_Standard_v6_1_1

 Only TIDA-50012 has PWM configuration register

   (Table 3-93.) 0x6B HW Control Register

Can other b),c) board configure HW control register ? how?

    Please find my response below.

    Q1. Yes.

    Q1.1 It means which Power Path VBUS1/2 pin is associated with. Connect VBUS1 to PP1/PP3 and VBUS2 to PP2/PP4 (TPS65988)

    Q2. USB2-only port do not support USB3 signals. Fully-featured port can support all the Type C signal. 

    "Tethered fully-featured cable USB-C plug" Cable which is attached to a device. Example Type C dongles. 

    Receptacle is typically downstream type C port of a Dongle or ports on Notebook.

    Q3. TPS65988/7D is a ROM device. So, it will have ROM code in it at the time of shipment, ROM code cannot be customized. FW patches needs to be applied using external SPI flash. 

     Q4. Registers are not board specific. You can check Host Interface technical reference manual for register details.
