TPS65987D: Has the software protected SPI flash compatibility been solved?

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987, TPS65988,

Hello TI Team,

there was this thread, where it was found that the TI software tool could not program software protected areas in a flash (At least how I understand it).

With Brian helpfully provding a python script, they together with Aaron found the issue, and Brian noted that they should fix the software tool.

We are now looking into placing a smaller flash IC (MX25V5126FZUI) as well, but are now unsure if it will be programmable through the tool.

Could you please either

  • Confirm that the functionality has been added to the TI Tool for TPS65987 and/or
  • Confirm that the flash IC is compatible with the TPS IC.

In this thread, an older, obsolete part number (MX25L512E-ZUI-10G) was confirmed as working.

Thank you!

Kind regards,

Daniels

EDIT: Fixed broken links

  • Hi Daniel,

I have assigned this issue to the relevant expert who will get back to you shortly.

    Thank you,

  • Hi Daniel,

If you take a look at the TPS65987 and TPS65988 SPI Flash Firmware Update over I2C application note Section 4, you will see the requirements for the Flash IC. I have included the excerpt here below:

As you can see, we recommend using the W25X05CL, therefore we cannot guarantee that other Flash ICs will be compatible with the device, you will have to check the Flash IC that you mentioned and it's capabilities to see if it will meet the requirements described in the application note. You may also look into the MX25L8006EM1I-12G Flash IC as this is the one we use on the TPS65987D EVM and it's compatible with this device.

    Thank you,

    Hari
