DS90UB949-Q1: External Controller Override (EXT_CTL) function

Part Number: DS90UB949-Q1

Hi Team,

Customer is using the DS90UB949-Q1 in an upcoming design and is trying to determine the MODE config necessary for their application. Question is about the external controller override (EXT_CTL). What specifically does this do? I understand based on the BRIDGE_CFG register that it 'disables the internal bridge control function' and therefore disables initialization of the HDMI receiver, but could someone provide more clarity on what specifically this is doing?

Appreciate the insight!

Regards,

Andy

  • Hello Andy,

EXT_CTL basically configures the device to disable the HDMI RX state machine so that it can be manually controlled via I2C from a host. It is not recommended outside of debug purposes, so please strap the 949 for internally controlled HDMI.

    Best Regards,

    Casey
