I'm planning to design the board with TPS65983B. but,

It seems like the firmware is only downloadable for projects with Thunderbolt 3.

is it true? if so, could you suggest any alternatives?

Hi Woojun,

The TPS65983B is designed for use only in Intel TBT Reference designs. For a new non-TBT reference based design, I recommend TPS65987D and TPS65988 as single and dual port PD Controller alternatives.

I can also help if there are specific design requirements being considered.

presumably, TPS65981 and TPS65982 would also be options? since I need USB 3.0 AND DP.

Hi Woojun,

Yes, the TPS65981 and TPS65982 are options, however I do recommend TPS65987D because "TPS65982 supports PD 2.0 only which is no longer being certified by the USB-IF. TPS65987D is a PD 3.0 controller and should be used for new designs".

The TPS65987D can control a USB SS Mux and also supports DP Alternate mode.
