TPS65987D: Standalone Configuration

Part Number: TPS65987D

Hi,

I am designing a power sink+source board using TPS65987D.

The mode I want to implement is 20V SINK Mode + 5V SOURCE Mode.

But, There is no FLASH on our board.

So I want to use the TPS76987D with the default settings.

First, I Try this Mode

My Board can receive 20V from TPS65987D.

But, I Change Mode to Configuration 5…..

Board is not working. VBUS_CON=20V, but PP_HV1=0V

  1. What is meaning that “External switch” (Written configuration5 Description) ?
  2.  Can I implement 20V SINK Mode + 5V SOURCE Mode without FLASH ?

I need help, Best Regards,

  • Sorry picture is not attached....

  • Hello,

There is the option to control a external power path instead of using the internal power paths. You can use the TPS65987EVM as reference. Based on your schematic capture though, you should be using configuration 3 which is capable of sinking up to 20V using the internal power path.

Have you tried negotiating a 5V source contract using configuration 3?

  • Thank you for quick response.

    I can get 5V (PPHV1 OUT) using configuration 3.

    (Connect 5V only Charger)

In case configuration 5(external switch), Can't I use Internal power paths?

I want to implement it like below Scheme without FLASH.

    Which setting should I use?

    Can it be implemented?

    Thanks for the kind reply.

I look forward to your quick reply. Thank you.

  • Hello,

Yes you should be able to implement the two internal power paths using configuration 3

  • Hello,

    I haven't solved it yet.

As mentioned in the first question, 5V Source Mode did not work when running with the 3rd setting.

    What's the problem?
