DS90UB940-Q1: 1920*1080P@60FPS application in 940

Part Number: DS90UB940-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB949A-Q1, DS90UB941AS-Q1, DS90UB949-Q1, DS90UB947-Q1, DS90UB953-Q1

Hi team,

we have below questions about DS90UB940 application. customer camera is 1920*1080P@60fps, please help on beblow questions:

1. if use 940 to receive 1920*1080P@60fps signal, Is it necessary to use two lanes of STP transmission? Can they use single lane?

2. if use 940 as Deser, Can they use Coax repalce STP? Any diference between STP and Coax in transmission?

3. For the Ser side, to transfer 1920* 1080P@60FPS Can only Mipi DSI interface be used? what Ser device are you recommend?

4. if use 953 as Ser and use 940/954 as deser, Can they use single lane to transfer 1920* 1080P@60FPS ?

5. The datasheet show the 1 lane input and 4 MIPI lanes output, 1lane can support to 3.36Gbps. Is it can meet 1920*1080P@60FPS signale, right? because 1920*1080*60*24=2.99Gbps < 3.36Gbps.

thanks.

  • Hello Betty,

    1. Dual link is required for PCLK > 96MHz so 1080p60 does require dual link

    2. Yes, 940 is compatible with both STP and coax. The datasheet shows which configuration for the cable mode in MODE_SEL1 and table 101 shows the required cap/resistor connections for the high speed line.

    3. For the serializers which can support 1080p60 in conjunction with 940, that would be DS90UB949-Q1 (HDMI), DS90UB949A-Q1 (HDMI), DS90UB947-Q1 (OLDI), or DS90UB941AS-Q1 (DSI)

    4. DS90UB953-Q1 is not compatible with 940. Please see the 940 datasheet for compatible serializers. 953 comes from our camera SERDES portfolio which is not compatible with our 94x/92x display SERDES portfolio

    5. 3.36Gbps is the FPD-Link rate, not the video rate. FPD-Link III includes video data, audio data, GPIO, I2C, control, clock, etc. so it is a higher data rate than the raw video alone. Dual FPD-Link III is required for 1080p60 since 96MHz is not high enough PCLK to support this video rate

    Best Regards,

    Casey
