My customer made some prototypes using the 953/954 with STP. They are experiencing a weird issue where it says it is linked but they are not able to communicate with the remote device:

It seems to link up in all speed modes, and the margin analysis looks okay.

On the ALP app from the 954 it shows as linked, but the remote device is not detected properly.

On the ALP app from the 953 is also shows as linked, but both devices are not detecting properly.

If I disconnect the cable between the devices, then the 953 shows properly.

Once it is linked, I can see the remote address from the registers, but not on the main GUI.

However, I am still not able to change any remote registers .

I thought maybe something was wrong with the ALP app, but I am not able to communicate using our tools either. Something seems wrong with the link. But I am surprised that it says linked at all.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Vikorija,

I see that your back channel is set to 25Mbps rather than 50Mbps. Could you set the back channel in reg 0x58 = 0x5E?

Customer has tried 50Mbps also. Additional info:

I have tried all of the speed modes, and I see the same issue in each one. Both the serializer and deserializer say they are linked, but I cannot talk across the channel.

When connected to the serializer, I also see the "RX Lock status" toggle true/false. I assume this is the "RX lock detect" from the deserializer. So it seems it cannot see the deserializer side.
