DS90UB953-Q1: Acceptable insertion loss data

Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB913A-Q1, DS90UB934-Q1

Hi Team,

My customer would like to know how long cable reach they can get with DS90UB913A-Q1 + DS90UB934-Q1 combination.

But there is no  data about acceptable insertion loss data in the datasheet even though this is high speed device...

Can we use the data described in "7.4.7.2 Channel Requirements" in DS90UB960 datasheet for  DS90UB934-Q1 in order to estimate its cable reach?
if not, please tell me the requirements for DS90UB934-Q1.

Regards,

Takashi Onawa

  • Hello Takashi-san,

Maximum allowed Insertion loss for the transmission channel are:

    Frequency       Insertion loss (dB)

    1MHz                  -1.4

    5MHz                  -2.3

    10MHz               -2.5

    50MHz               -3.5

    100MHz             -4.5

    500MHz            -9.5

    1GHz                -14

  • Hi Hamzeh-san,

Thanks for your prompt response. OK, I understood the EQ performance.

Then, I have one additional question.

Do you have any other devices which supports much higher insertion loss?
My customer wants to achieve 15m cable reach with RG-174(coax cable) but it looks DS90UB953 doesn't have enough EQ performance.

    Reagrds,

    Takashi Onawa

  • Hello Takashi-san,

the provided numbers are not the EQ performance. These are the IL budget our device can work with.

I have seen applications using the pairs 935+936 or 953+954, which reachs up to 25 meters even higher. You just need to use the better cable. For example, if you use the Coax cable (Leoni Dacar 037-3) you can reach more than 25 meters.

We use internally the cable Leoni Dacar 462 and reach 15 meters.

  • Hi Hamzeh-san,

OK, I understood it's should be call Insertion loss budget.

One quick question, My customer is understanding low loss cable makes the cable reach extend but they would like to know if there is the cable reach difference between generations(Like 93X and 95X) when using the same cable. Does newer generation have high performance EQ or just same IP on the EQ part?

    Regards,

    Takashi Onawa

  • Hello Takashi-san,

the 95x/96x has more EQ range than the older 91x/93x, but because the 95x/96x uses a higher frequency (2GHz instead of 1GHz), this additional EQ is necessary to compensate the extra loss at higher frequency.

Basically all generations are specified for typical cable reach of 15 meters.

  • Hi Hamzeh-san,

    I understood.

As last question, Can you give us information on the cables we are using for our verification?

    Regards,

    Takashi Onawa

  • Hi Hamzeh-san,

Sorry, You already told me about the Cable information.

    >We use internally the cable Leoni Dacar 462 and reach 15 meters.
