Hi There,
Does the TUSB8042A support Linux kernel 5.4.45 or not?
Can TUSB8042A modify the signal strength?(Upstream & Downstream/USB2.0&3.0) ?

Hi,
TUSB8042A work with the default USB driver provided in Linux. The USB2 downstream signal strength can be modified by USB_R! resistor see document linked below. USB 3.0 receiver equalization is adaptive and cannot be modified . USB 3 transmitter performance cannot be modified.
Hi Malik,
1. Do you have any recommand for TUSB8042A differential trace length?(USB3/USB2)
2. Can you provide the 8042A demo board circuit and layout for me?
3. Does the TUSB8042A have any app can flash the FW?(like TUSB926x_Burner_2.10.0.exe)
4. Do you have any recommand for TUSB8042A's eeprom part ?
5. If the upstream port USB 2.0 is NC but the USB 3.0 is connected, can the downstream port USB 2.0 work?
Thanks for your sharing

Hi Anson,
1. USB3/USB2 trace length should be kept under 8 inches for USB Host to the upstream port and the downstream port to USB connector. Performance will also depend on PCB material used.
2 & 3. Please accept my friend request so that I can send you the software and design files through E2E DM. Please post on your original thread once you have done so.
4. No specific recommendations but EPROM requirements are detailed in section 8.4.2 I 2C EEPROM Operation of the datasheet.
5. USB 2 upstream must be connected for downstream port operation at USB (or compliant USB 3 operation).

-->So I can modify the upstream signal strength, if the downstream port signal strength needed?Because I will serial two TUSB8042A, the sequence is HOST-->TUSB8042A#1-->TUSB8042A#2-->Rear IO connector.
2. There is 32 Via holes on thermal pad, can I reduce the thermal pad via hole amount?
3. If I use the 24MHz OSC for TUSB8042AI, what voltage should I chose?1.8V or 3.3V?
Best,
Anson
Hi Anson,
1. Not sure if I understand your question. TUSB8042A TX performance is fixed and RX performance is adaptive for both upstream and downstream ports. If you need greater than 8 inches between each Host, Hub, or connector I recommend using a USB redriver to extend the amount of trace than can be used.
2. I recommend using 32 via hole to ensure a good connection to GND. The thermal pad is the only connection to GND for the device so connection should be very good to avoid issues.
3.1.8V OSC should be used.
