DP83822IF: Can this part be operated in simplex mode in 100BASE-FX?

Part Number: DP83822IF

Hi Experts,

My customer want to operate their 100BASE-FX port in simplex mode. Their system only have a single fiber for data transmit, no fiber for data receive. Since their system only need one way communication, such they want to operate DP83822 in simplex mode. I am not sure does 100BASE-FX support simplex mode of operation? If yes, how should they configure the phy device to work in this mode?

Thank you,

John

  • Hello John,

I am looking into it and will share with you the possible solution in a day or two. Just to be sure about the application :

    1. 822 will be used only for transmit and its receiver will not see any signal?

    2. Is link partner also 822?

    3. Is register access (read/write) possible for both 822 and link-partner?

  • Hi Vikram,

    Thank you!

Here are answer for your questions:

    1. 822 will be used only for transmit and its receiver will not see any signal?

Yes. Actually only Tx fiber is installed, no Rx fiber at all.

    2. Is link partner also 822?

    Not.

    3. Is register access (read/write) possible for both 822 and link-partner?

They can access the register of 822, but cannot control the link-partner.

    Regards,

    John

  • Hello John,

I am still checking for the required configuration to achieve link-up between 822 and other phy in this system configuration. Does customer already have a system on which we can try a few register writes on 822 to make it work? Unfortunately as it is not a widely used mode, so we dont have a configuration documented for this.
