DS90UB953-Q1: MIPI clock speed of the image sensor is higher than specification, can it work?

Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1

Hi Team,

Good day, we received inquiry from customer and want to confirm if our device DS90UB953-Q1 can support their application. For me to not miss any information, I will copy the query below.

"

We are planning the ds90ub953 for our project. Our image Sensor provides a MIPI clock speed of 891Mbps/lane, however the ds90ub953 only supports up to 832Mbps (at base clock of 26MHz). We are planning a base clock of 24.75MHz, which would result in a max supported MIPI clock of 792Mbps/lane. --> max MIPI clock is 128 x base-clock
The data-rate (= data content = active video) is much lower at 380Mbps/lane. Can the ds90ub953 support this use case?
I would expect from a data-rate point of view it might be possible, but from a max MIPI clock it is not."

Looking forward for your kind response.

Regards,

Maynard

  • Hello Maynard,

No this will not work since 953 has extremely small buffer size. Practically it can't buffer any data inside, so the input side needs to ensure that the lane rate is below the max supported lane rate for it to work.

Please contact us internally for additional device options which can be shared under NDA.

    Best Regards,
