TPS65983B: Do I need to register a USB Vendor Id to use Thunderbolt?

Hi,

I am developing a board by referring to Tapex Creek TI83.

I customize the TPS65983B firmware using Application Customization Tool, Do I need to register a USB Vendor Id to use Thunderbolt?

I have no plans to use USB. Only TB3 functions are needed. Nevertheless, do I have to register?

The default value is 0x8087, can't we leave it as it is?

Hello,

You can apply to USBIF for a VID if you do not already have one for your company. You will need to have this for USBIF compliance testing.

I will not use USB.

Why do I need to register usb VID even though I only use Thunderbolt 3?

Hello,

You will need to to go through USBIF compliance testing for Thunderbolt certification, which is why your company will need a VID.
