DS90UB936-Q1: DS90UB936-Q1 changing configuration

Part Number: DS90UB936-Q1

Hi team,

Customer use DS935 pared with DS936.They want to change DS935 clocking mode from Synchronous Mode to Non-Synchronous AON mode. They don't want to change hardware configuration. they wonder whether they can realize it just by software configuration?

I found that DS935 can change it by Reg.0x03[2:0] and Reg.0x05[3] and DS936 by Reg.0x6D[1:0]. But what confuse me is 0x6D just can configurate it into CSI mode, but can't configurate it to synchronous mode or nonsynchronous mode, which mode pin configuration can as shown below. and I can't find a register to configurate synchronous mode or nonsynchronous mode.

In the other hand, I found the different capacitance requirement of AC coupling capacitor for synchronous mode or nonsynchronous mode.

My question are:

1. For DS936, whether we just need to change 0x6D[1:0]?

2. is it necessary to change the capacitance of ac coupling capacitor? if don't change, what's the risk?

thanks!

  • Hi Terry,

Is there a reason why the customer is planning on running in nonsync AON clock mode? AON mode is used more as a debug mode and not for transmitting actual video. If the customer wants to run in non-sync mode, they will need a local oscillator.

For Aon clock mode, you would configure for CSI mode and then change the back channel frequency to 10Mbps in reg 0x58. Because of the lowered back channel rate, we suggest updating the cap values.
