TCA9800: Maximum clock frequency of TCA9800 vs TCA9801

Part Number: TCA9800
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9801

Hi,

In Table 7.6 - Timing requirements,

TCA9800 - Min value of fSCL(max) = 100kHz

TCA9801 - Min value of fSCL(max) = 400kHz

1. What is meant by MINIMUM value of Maximum clock frequency?

2. What is the range of frequencies supported by each of these ICs?

  • All chips support any frequency between 0 and fSCL(max).

When you look at different chips, or at one chip under different environmental conditions, the maximum possible clock frequency will be different. A good chip under optimal conditions is able to run with a frequency much higher than 400 kHz, but the specified value is the value that is guaranteed to be supported for all chips at all temperatures, i.e., the smallest of those limits.
