Hi Prajith,

I have gone through the following e2e question regarding android phone charging.

e2e.ti.com/.../946192

My question on your answer on 4th & 5th statement:

You have suggested barrel jack event to do the power switch between source and sink for android phone by keeping data role UFP for device and DFP for smartphone.

We would like to know is there any host intervention required with PD chip to do the swap of power sink to source & source to sink when adapter is attached/detached.

  • Hi Paresh,

No there is no need for host intervention if you are just using the barrel jack event to perform a power role swap as the event trigger would handle this.

    Thank you,

    Hari

  • Hi Hari,

    Thanks for your quick response.

I would like  to  know to is there any hardware configuration required to set barrel jack event ?

Also I have seen the Fast role swap in TPS65987D. So can we use that by keeping data in UFP only ?

Also please share the step to config barrel jack and FRS event in TPS65987D .

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Hari,

What is the time to require to complete the barrel power jack event from sink to source conversion ?

I would like to know this because I want to put the enough capacitance as per my circuit load to achieve uninterruptable operation.

Also can you please let me know barrel jack event support FRS or FPS ?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Paresh,

I believe you will just need to connect the GPIO to one of the signals that will come up with the barrel jack event.

Yes FRS will enable you to switch the power roles but maintain the data connection. How are you planning on using this event for FRS or the behavior you would like to see?

I believe if you are connecting to a dongle/adaptor, then that device will need a good amount of capacitance on the system rail, about 600uF minimum is the requirement, to keep VBUS on.

I would recommend reading the Fast Role Swap White Paper as well as the Fast Role Swap Application Note for more details on this process.

    Thank you,

    Hari
