PCF8575: Interfacing with Motor Driver IC

My requirement is to control four or more DC Motors / latching Relays from microcontroller,

Previously I was using DRV8800 IC to control DC Motors / latching Relays from microcontroller,

but Now I am having 16-IO Expander IC (PCF8575) connected with microcontroller due to limited number of Pins available.

Instead of connecting four IC's of DRV8800 IC to PCF8575 IC, I have decided to Interface DRV8823 IC with PCF8575 IC to control four DC Motors / latching Relays (DC Motors / latching Relays are connected to DRV8823 IC)

Can you Please Suggest me Its Interfacing ?

Hi AC,

Are you requiring this device to drive the outputs quickly (like PWM?) if so, you would be quite limited in the speed as you would need to do the switching through I2C transactions.

Hi Bobby,

My requirement is driving output not quickly as PWM. My output can be remain stable in one state for few seconds, so I think speed limitation is not an issue for me,

Alternately if TI has any driver IC having four motor drivers using PHASE & ENABLE configuration Pin & can communicate with I2C, you can also suggest me.

Hi Amit,

I'll reassign this thread to our motor drive team to double check if they have an I2C controlled motor driver with 4x channels (if H bridge, then we would need 8x I believe).

They should comment within 24 hours.
