DS160PR410: DS160PR410RNQT

Part Number: DS160PR410

Hello,

We would like to use the DS160PR410RNQT as PCIe gen3 redriver.

Is it recommended to place the redrivers (TX and RX)  in the motherboard or in the end-point cards that are connected to the motherboard?

We are mainly concern about signal integrity issues.

Thank you,

David

  • Hi David,

First of all, it is highly recommended to use PR410 IBIS-AMI mode along with your system s-parameter model to make sure you have good signal integrity margin. PR410 model has been correlated with the actual device performance so this would give you a good overview of the eye openings and etc.

As it relates to your question, this all depends on the insertion loss through the signal path. It is recommended to have at least 3-4dB loss on the input of the PR410 device. This is done to make sure PR410 operates in it'\s linear region and can pass Gen3 training sequence seamlessly. Please note table 1 of the data sheet. Note PR410 gain at 4GHz is ~ 12dB. Also, in Gen3 root complex and end point should be able to handle about 22dB on their own. Therefor this means total insertion loss should be about 34dB or less.
