DP83848K: Can LED_SPEED pin be reconfigured to indicate link status?

Part Number: DP83848K

Hi experts,

My customer is using DP83848K in their products, however they found the LED operation mode cannot meet the end user's requirement. They need the two LEDs to indicate LINK status and activity respectively. I am wondered is it possible to reconfigure the device to implement this kind of LED mode? I know this device provide access to LED pins directly through software, however their software is working on OS (Linux), their software does not have access to PHY device. And engineer does not have ability to redesign driver to support this operation mode. And also, unfortunately the hardware has been fixed, means they cannot redesign the hardware or change device. I am not sure what customer can do for this problem?

Thank you!

John

  • Hi John,

There is not a way to force LED_SPEED to indicate activity. You can however, configure LED_LINK to be ON for LINK and BLINK for ACTIVITY.

Register 0x19[5]=0 will set the LED_CNFG for this mode. The Strap setting on Pin 33 (LED_CFG) will also set the PHY into this mode.

    Regards,
