Hi Team,

Customer get one request from us, they want do a audio dongle/adopter paired with their earphone. Following is their basic concept block diagram; they have 2 type-C port, and specific their requirement is as follow:

1). 1 audio port, 1 power port, it could be powered when power port has no input, and worked normal;

2). Power port support PD, when power adapter is connected, the dongle/adopter could charge the phone or other connected device.

Could you help evaluate if TPS65988 could support this application?

    Thanks for your comments.

    The design you showed support audio signal, how about the dual role power supply. As I mentioned in the post, customer request, when type C adapter plugged in, the audio should charge the phone; when no type C adapter, the phone should power the dongle; during the power role change, audio signal should not break, could TPS65988 achieve this? And how should we configure TPS65988 to achieve this? Could you help share some comments?

    Hi Will, 

    The TPS65988 can support dual role power and a power role swap. The data connection will not be disrupted. For more information on fast role swaps, please check out the following app note. You can configure the TPS65988 to achieve this using the GUI tool to enable swaps. Though the design is for the TPS65982, you can follow the design I shared in my first comment for the audio data..
