SN65HVS882: Cascaded configuration

Part Number: SN65HVS882

Hello Team,

My customer would like to know what is the maximum SN65HVS882 that can be cascaded? Basically, he is trying to read 128 relays output status (24V for ON and GND/open for OFF) and its voltage level (24V DC) and looking if he can cascade 16 of SN65HVS882 for this application.

Regards,

_Renan

  • Hi Renan,

We actually don't have a max spec for how many units can be cascaded together - we have an app report that cascades 4 in a row. However I don't think there should be an issue - the serial data stream will be pretty long and could slow down processing speed, but I don't think there should be any technical limitations - as we are essentially just increasing the length of our shift register - and the time it takes to shift from the first register to the processor may prove to be too much of a delay for the system - but I'd like to stress that this isn't an issue with cascading the parts but more what system specs the system designer is trying to achieve.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

    Best,

    Parker Dodson
