SN65LVDS93B-Q1: ESD Issue

Part Number: SN65LVDS93B-Q1

Hi,

My customer is designing a dashboard for motorbike.

He is experiencing a problem regarding ESD discharges which lead to the non-functioning of the LVDS SN65LVDS93B-Q1 transceiver.

This panel uses the SN65LVDS93B-Q1 device to convert video signals from RGB to LVDS.

The chip, the connections and the shape of the traces are no different than other customer boards that use the same component, and which have never given the same problem.

In this panel, compared to other panels of the past that use the same LVDS transceiver, the only thing that changes is the display supplier: it seems that with this display the board is more sensitive to ESD discharges, and leads to the non-functioning of the transceiver blocking during normal operation.

Customer tried every possible solution to shield the display, but without success.

My question at this point is: is there any guideline on the TI side to make the LVDS transceiver more insensitive to ESD discharges during normal operation? Can you please give us some suggestions on adding components to protect normal operation?

Just to be clear, the test that does not give positive results customer, has been carrying out with contact discharges +/- 8 kV according to ISO 10605: 2001 (2 kohm, 150 pF), with the discharges applied on the front of the display (glass) .

Thanks to the availability,

Antonio
