DS80PCI800: differences between DS80PCI800 and DS80PCI402

Hi,

We are using two DS80PCI800 for 8 lane PCIe gen 3 on one design and two DS80PCI402 on a similar design. Our product is an endpoint and the endpoint is the same between our designs, though the intended host is different. The design for DS80PCI402 is working but DS80PCI800 the link is not coming up. My understanding is that the two parts are the same except for different pinouts for x4 /x8 applications. Could you confirm?

Hi Chenxi,

Your understanding is correct. DS80PCI402 is the master device and DS80PCI800 is a derivative of PCI402 but for X8 applications.

as a follow up question, is there a difference in behavior if the part its powered by 3.3V or 2.5V?

In our design with DS80PCI402, the lowest EQ setting worked, and we did not have to adjust any settings. Since the layout changed, I think it makes sense that the equalization settings need to be adjusted. is there any guidane on how to get correct settings?

Hi Chenxi,

We recommend to start with the lowest setting first. As long as you have not added high loss on the input or output, we expect your settings may stay the same.

Thanks for the responses. Currently the setting is the lowest EQ, and we guesstimate the loss is about the same. I will experiment with the settings, but i suspect the issue lies elsewhere in the system.
